Breathe

Our help in times of need.

Some people have asked me how to find hope in a crisis. You know when a sick family member continues to go downhill. Or the bills keep piling up endlessly. When all the external things battle your internal perspective and you feel like you are free falling. Chaos is exploding. You are gasping for air. What do you do?

A couple of posts will share what I have found helpful. I know everyone is different. My purpose would be to offer some ideas that can help you change the course in your mind and heart. And as always leave me your thoughts so I can learn from you!

As a Christ follower, I desire to stand in my faith and look to the Lord for my hope and help. Sometimes that feels impossible. Sometimes I am drowning in sorrow, fear, anxiety. How do I get to solid ground? Most often it means pausing and then taking action of some type.

I am not a fan of cliches - especially from Christians. I recently commented I had some anxiety about a new step I was taking professionally. One well-meaning person said, “Just pray.” I had. But the reality of stepping into a new situation and preparing as best I could had me nervous. Have you ever done something new that you were totally untrained for? I am a fan of sincere thoughtful encouragement and actionable ideas. But saying, “just pray” is dismissive and maybe even arrogant. If we care about people we need to be more thoughtful in our words and invested in encouraging hearts.

God is our refuge and strength, an ever present help in trouble.
